End of Summer lull; Return of a breakfast favorite, and care free treats

I desperately need for school to begin. I am bored to tears. Un-motivated. Going through the motions. The more time I have to do things, the less I do. I thrive off of schedules and deadlines. Though I know that this is just an excuse I like to use for the fact that I’m being very unproductive and lazy these days. Just ignore me while I vent.

This morning, I set my alarm so as to pretend I had some form of structure in my life and ate a Breakfast cookie, the first after a long time!

1/2 a banana, 1/3 c. rolled oats, 1 tbsp. Sunwarrior protein powder, 1 tbsp. cocoa powder, 1 tbsp. shredded coconut, 1 tbsp. peanut butter, splash of almond milk. Mash, spread onto a plate, leave in the fridge overnight. This morning I topped it with a little smear of cocoa bliss (chocolate-coconut butter) and some home-made raspberry chia seed jam. Side of fruit and tea.

After my extremely productive and social morning –sarcasm. I sat in my basement and watched several episodes of Modern Family, folded a basket of laundry, danced around to the 60’s French pop station on Songza and gave myself an at-home coconut oil hair treatment. Real life.

LUNCH

sautéed kale and crimini mushrooms, roasted sweet potato and a fried egg. I almost added feta, but I had big, dairy plans for later in the day.

Finally I washed the half cup of coconut oil out of my hair, pulled on some people clothes and was off to meet another human in the form of my best friend Ashley. We walked and talked and tried on stupid hats. The youzghe <shortened version of ‘usual’

We went our separate ways and I found my self in a sweaty heap on my yoga mat. 75 minutes at Yoga Passage left me a happy, noodly, HUNGRY girl. My friend Nat and I had dinner at Boxwood Cafe. It has been on my “To Eat” list for the longest time but today offered the perfect recipe of hunger, special occasion, and utter disregard for financial status.

Nat’s heading back to Vancouver for school on Thursday, I’ll miss her LOTS but I’m planning on showing up on her door step in BC later this year…

I had the amazing quinoa stuffed eggplant with roasted tomatoes and miso for dinner.

Plus a glass of rosé.

Afterwards we meandered down to Village Ice cream ,where I got bourbon butter pecan and salted caramel. Half scoop of each = 1 scoop in a still warm waffle cone.

So. much. yes. Also, get this: Food when enjoyed thoroughly and without agonizing over as to whether it will give you a stomach ache… does not give you a stomach ache! Noted.

I’m starting to notice a pattern here

Another weekend bites the dust.

On Friday I went to a orthodontist appointment to pick up my stylin’ new retainer. Fact: I wore braces for seven years, plus two years of special retainers and head gears. Every time someone tells me I have a nice smile I reply with a snarky “I had better have a nice smile after all the years of torture I went through” It’s very unbecoming of me but I can’t help myself.

I went to work at Yoga Passage for the afternoon. It was my first solo shift and just when I started to get a little bit anxious, I heard an OM from the studio behind me and a sweet yogi gave me a Vegan, Gluten-Free cookie and tea. I could get used to this.

Typical Friday night.

On Saturday I was up early, double fisted a smoothie and tea and went to the Ashtanga 2 class before working.

I had a birthday to go to later that night so I did my hair, put on a uncomfertable outfit and even worse shoes and then proceeded to fall asleep (fully dressed) on top of a pile of laundry. This morning I had breakfast with my friend Natradee, we enjoyed a spread of yogurt with fruit and granola, peanut butter on toast and a boiled egg. It felt like a hotel breakfast.

Afterwards we went to Body Combat, where the instructor cruelly added plyometric lunges and donkey kicks to the mix. Grunting. Lots of grunting.

As much as I wanted to stay at home for the rest of the day and watch more Mad Men, I knew today was really my only chance to make a significant dent in my research paper that is due on Thursday -silent sobs- so I packed my bags and set up camp at Higher Ground Cafe for some work time.

Camera-less/ Comatose

Well, I just sat down to blog about my second night at The Rocky Mountain Food and Wine Festival, only to realize that I left my point and shoot there! D’oh! I’m putting all my faith into hoping a good person found it and turned it in.

Here you would find pictures of a crab cake, chicken satay skewer, rack of lamb, sushi, butter chicken, lamb slider, and gelato. Not surprisingly, that combination of foods do not equal a happy tummy. Some times it’s necessary to compromise your comfort in the name of AMAZING FOOD. The angry noises of my stomach lulled me to sleep and I was out for a good 12 hours fully sumberged in a food coma.

Some how, I got hungry for breakfast after last night’s gourmet binge

Egg – Toast – Green Monster

This is the first time in YEARS that I’ve eaten an egg for breakfast, I’m more of a carby-sweet-nutbuttered breakfast girl.

I was planning on doing nothing for the rest of the day but some how my day was eaten up grocery shopping, making dinner and karma cleaning.

I made my family Shepard’s pie with ground turkey and cheesy mashed potatoes but I wasn’t really feeling it so I had some of the filling on top of a baked sweet potato with nutritional yeast and a pile of roasted green beans

Welcome to October

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hi friends! Sorry for falling off the face of the earth this weekend! I was exhausted on Friday, went out Saturday night and lazed around all Sunday long, with the exception of Karma Cleaning at the yoga studio. It was perfect! Also, none of my chores were completed, who needs clean laundry anyway? Go commando! Kidding, kind of.

I went to yoga after work, lead by Tracy at the yoga passage. Love his classes, essentially a stand up comedy show + sun salutations

I had exactly ten minutes between getting home from yoga and Gossip Girl starting. Quickest dinner ever!

I’m a sucker for all things sweet+ savory. When I first got into cooking, I thought that the chefs on TV who put dried fruit in their stews or served honey on cheese platters had a few screws loose or were just being pretentious with their absurd flavour combinations. Then I caught on. Sweet makes everything better.

DELICIOUSLUNCH: Egg, Crofter’s jam and sharp cheddar on an English Muffin (or, if you’re in England, just a muffin) + Spinach with balsamic, seeds and dried fruit on top

The face of a girl who does not want to study any more

I took my final study session to Starbucks today, simply because I have been sitting in the same spot on my couch all week getting my study on, and there seems to be an imprint of my bottom on said couch

Rewind to breakfast

 

Plain oatmeal with half a Haagen Daz bar

I spent the majority of my morning with my face and text-book as one and broke for lunch

Sunshiney egg, wilted spinach mashed with a laughing cow cheese wedge and nutritional yeast, and toast to soak up all the drippings

My brain is saturated with information (kind of like how alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons! Anyone?) and I reserve the right to watch the season premier of Jersey Shore in peace and be in bed by 9.

Distaste

Dinner:

sprouted-wheat toast + egg + cheddar + jam

I used to hate jam as a youngin’, except for the odd PB’n’J, but thanks to Crofter’s, it one of my new favorite condiments. Jam with egg and cheese? Why not!? Here are some other foods that I still really, truly hate:

  • Dried blueberries (but I love fresh blueberries)
  • Mango Juice (but I love mangos)
  • Lychee
  • Chocolate + mint combination
  • Indian sweets
  • Chicken wings
